Valentine Concert: An Intimate Acoustic Show

I’ll have a major concert on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 @ 2pm at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts (SeeMap) presented by P & O Productions.  As the title of the show implies, it will be an intimate afternoon between you, the audience, and I with some guest performers.

Though it’s still for early next year, it will be here sooner than you think.  Major recipient for this concert is the Magnificat Charismatic Prayer Community, to help with the continuous upkeep and maintenance of our place of worship at Regina Mundi in Newmarket, ON.

You can order and reserve your tickets as they are now available to order on-line directly through their Box Office.  Tickets are $40 & $56 (incl. HST).  The Box Office has a really cool ordering visual as you can see exactly your seat location (that you reserved) and how the stage looks like from where you’re seating.

Spend an afternoon with me to help start your Valentine’s Day.  Take care everyone and hope to see there!

Lydia Paje Ballesteros

After a prolonged battle with heart problems and diabetes, it is with deep sadness our family announces the passing of my mom, Lydia Paje Ballesteros on July 31, 2010 at Mississauga Trillium Health Centre.  She was 76 years old.

She was the musical director of the Magnificat Community Music Ministry.

A devoted wife of Manuel for 53 years; cherished mother of Suzanne (Eugene), Marc (Elsa) and Michael; adored grandmother of Marianne, Chris and Jodi, Lydia will be fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched for her unselfish devotion to her family, her gregarious outlook on life and her true love for music.  She will be deeply and sadly missed.  She is now interred at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Mississauga, ON.

Thank you to everyone who supported us through our time of grief.

Ride to Conquer Cancer: 2010

This coming weekend, June 12-13, 2010 will be my third and final year to do the Toronto to Niagara Falls bike trek for Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.  My wife and I wish to thank you, all our supporters, for the past three years in a row that I participated in this fundraising for cancer research.  Thank you to all who had been with us since the start and by being a repeat sponsor.  I’m especially grateful to everyone who supported me on my final year, for your faith and belief in me and the cause.

Version 3

A few days before the ride:  I hurt my back Monday morning doing a simple backyard chore.  This chronic back problem has been with me for many years.  Just my luck, only 4 days before the ride!  Since I have a degenerative disc on my spine, a simple chore like what I did or a wrong turn or twist can trigger the pain.  I will have these attacks ever so often.  Don’t know if  back surgery will cure this but for now, I don’t want to take a chance.  Whenever these attacks happen, I am usually on my back and takes about 5 days to recover!  I was hoping to get some more last few days of riding time before the weekend event but now, I’ll have to take it easy.

Update:  I still managed to do the ride.  The back pain was still bad, but bearable.  I was stiff the whole time but didn’t want to end my last effort on my back.  The excitement of the ride helped me get my mind off the pain and was especially true at the Finish Line in Niagara Falls.  This was also the first time my mom made it to the ride event and see me finish.  She had been ill the previous years.  It was good to see her there!

Ride to Conquer Cancer 2009

The success of The Ride to Conquer Cancer last year showed how many people were touched by this life altering disease and why so many are willing to help find the cure. Many more lives will be affected unless a cure can be found. That’s why even how many millions of dollars were raised from last year’s ride, the fight continues and along with many others, I am back to do it all over again in 2009!

On June 13-14, 2009, I’ll be participating in a 2-day major cycling event benefiting Princess Margaret Hospital, Canada’s leading institution devoted to cancer research and care. It’s a bike ride, over 200 kilometres, from Toronto to Niagara Falls. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, perseverance, and your generosity, it can be done!
